Course Content

Foundations: The Home Decor Studio
This foundational module is your "inspiration" and "setup" phase. We'll start by exploring the "aesthetic" home textile market—a booming, creator-driven economy where cushions are no longer just "pillows" but "art objects" for your sofa. You'll learn the most critical business strategy: finding your niche (e.g., Boho, Scandinavian, Maximalist) to stand out and attract your ideal customer. We'll then do a deep dive into the "Big 4" trendy fabrics (Linen, Velvet, Bouclé, Cotton Duck), learning their properties, pros, and cons. Finally, we'll outline your essential studio setup, from the right sewing machine to sourcing your wholesale supplies, and cover the absolute basics of machine sewing to prepare you for your first project.

Project 1: The Professional Cushion Cover
This is your first full "hands-on" production module. You will take your fabric and tools (from Module 1) and learn to create your first, foundational product: a professional-grade cushion cover. We'll start with the most critical and most overlooked step: how to properly measure and cut your fabric for a professional, "plump" fit (and how to minimize waste). You'll then learn the two primary construction methods: first, the "Envelope" Cover, which is the fast, easy, no-zipper method. Then, you'll master the "Invisible Zipper" Cover, the true professional standard for a high-end, store-quality product. We'll also cover the "pro-tips" for getting perfect, crisp corners and the secrets to handling tricky fabrics (like slippery velvet) on your machine.

Unique Ideas: Creating “Designer” Textiles
This is the "art" module where you move from a "sewist" to a "designer." A perfectly-sewn, blank cushion (from Module 2) is a product, but a designer textile is a premium, high-profit art piece. This module covers the most popular and "aesthetic" hands-on techniques for creating unique surface designs. You'll learn how to block-print with inks, how to hand-dye fabrics using various methods, and how to create the insanely popular 3D, textural art of punch needle. We'll also cover embroidery, tufting, and adding high-value embellishments like tassels and pom-poms. This is how you create your signature, "sold-out" collection.

Branding & “Aesthetic” Photography
This is the module where you build the soul of your business. A technically perfect, beautifully crafted cushion (from Module 3) is only half the battle. A strong brand is what makes it desirable, memorable, and allows you to charge a premium price. You'll learn how to create your brand name, logo, and vibe based on your niche. Photography is your most critical sales tool, so we'll do a deep dive into how to style your cushions like a pro (including "the chop") to make them look irresistible. You'll learn how to edit your photos for a cohesive, "aesthetic" look. Finally, we'll cover the packaging and "unboxing experience"—your customer's first physical interaction with your brand.

Legal, Pricing & Sourcing
This is the "business engine" module that turns your craft into a career. We'll cover the non-negotiable legal foundations you need, including [Disclaimer: Not legal advice] business registration and understanding the "handmade" laws in your area. We'll then tackle the most critical legal issue for designers: copyright, and the difference between "stealing" and being "inspired by" a design. We'll then shift to finance, teaching you how to source your fabric and inserts at wholesale to lower your costs. You'll learn the most important financial lesson: how to price your products for profit by meticulously calculating your Cost of Goods Sold (COGS) and using the standard Wholesale and Retail pricing formula.

Sales Channels & Scaling Your Collection
This is the module where your business goes live. You have a product (Module 2-3), a brand (Module 4), and a price (Module 5); now you need a "store" and a "system." We'll cover the three primary sales channels for your business. We'll start with a deep dive into Etsy, explaining why it is the #1 marketplace for home decor. Then, we'll explore the real-world strategy of selling at local markets and in independent boutiques. We'll also cover the "endgame" of launching your own Shopify website. You'll learn how to scale your product line by creating collections, using print-on-demand services, and the crucial logistics of shipping bulky items and batching your work for efficiency.

Marketing for the Home Decor Niche
This is your final business module, focused on launching and growing your brand. A beautiful, well-priced product is useless if no one knows it exists. This module covers the most effective, low-cost marketing strategies for your highly visual, "aesthetic" home decor business. You'll learn why Instagram and Pinterest are your #1 visual portfolios and how to leverage them. We'll build a content strategy around "aesthetic" styled photos and "making-of" Reels (like punch-needle time-lapses). You'll learn the B2B (Business-to-Business) strategies for getting your products in front of interior designers (a key audience) and how to work with home decor influencers and bloggers. Finally, you'll learn how to create a professional "Lookbook" to showcase your collections for wholesale and collaborations.
