Course Content

Foundations: Safety, Sanitation & Client Consultation
Welcome to the starting line of your professional career. This foundational module is the most important in the entire course, as it covers the non-negotiable principles of safety and professionalism that protect both you and your clients. Before you pick up a shear or a color brush, you must master the science of sanitation and disinfection, understanding the difference between cleaning and sterilizing to meet professional (often called "State Board" or "Health Department") standards. We'll cover tool safety for all your equipment, from sharp shears to hot thermal tools. You'll learn the basic anatomy of the hair, skin, and nails to understand the "canvas" you'll be working on. Finally, we'll dive into the art of client consultation—the single most important skill for client retention, happiness, and safety, covering needs assessment, identifying contraindications, and professional ethics.

Hairdressing Fundamentals: Cutting & Styling
This module is your hands-on introduction to the art and science of hairdressing. You will start with a deep dive into your essential tools, learning the anatomy, function, and proper handling of shears, razors, clippers, and texturizing shears. With your tools understood, we'll cover the core "physics" of haircutting: the foundational principles of angles, elevation, tension, and guidelines that determine the shape of every cut. You'll then learn how to apply these principles to create the four foundational haircuts (one-length, bob, graduation, and layers). We'll also introduce men's cutting, basic styling (including blow-drying and thermal tools), and the often-overlooked but crucial service of shampooing and scalp massage. By the end, you'll be able to execute a complete cut and style on a mannequin head.

Hair Chemistry: Color & Texture Services
This module is your introduction to the "chemistry" of hairdressing, where science and art collide. This is where you learn to transform hair permanently. We'll start with the non-negotiable foundation: color theory, understanding the color wheel not as a painter, but as a chemist who must neutralize unwanted tones. You'll gain a deeper understanding of hair structure and porosity, learning why a damaged cuticle (high porosity) grabs color differently than a healthy one. We'll then demystify the different types of hair color (permanent, demi, etc.) and the roles of developers, toners, and lighteners (bleach). You'll learn the practical application of these chemicals, from basic root touch-ups to modern foiling and balayage. Finally, we'll introduce the concepts of color correction and chemical texturizing (perms and relaxers).

Skincare & Esthetics
This module shifts your focus from hair to the body's largest organ: the skin. You'll learn the foundational skills of a professional esthetician. The module begins with the most critical step: skin analysis, teaching you how to identify different skin types, conditions, and use the Fitzpatrick scale to ensure safe services. You'll then learn the complete step-by-step procedure for a Classic European Facial, the bedrock of all facial treatments, covering cleansing, exfoliation, steam, extractions, and masking. We'll cover product knowledge for building a basic professional backbar, facial massage techniques for relaxation and circulation, and introductions to two high-demand services: hair removal (waxing) and eyebrow and eyelash tinting and shaping.

Nail & Makeup Artistry
This module rounds out your core technical skills by focusing on two high-demand areas: nail technology and makeup artistry. You'll begin by learning the essential anatomy of the nail and how to identify common diseases and disorders—a critical safety skill for knowing when a service is safe or when to refer to a medical professional. You will then master the step-by-step procedures for a professional Classic Manicure and Classic Pedicure, focusing on sanitation, shaping, cuticle care, massage, and polish application. We'll also cover the highly popular gel polish application and removal techniques. The module then transitions to makeup, starting with your kit essentials, understanding color theory and face shapes, and finally, learning the application steps for creating complete looks, from everyday natural to bridal and evening styles.

Salon Operations & Building Your Clientele
This module shifts your focus from technical skills to business skills. A flawless haircut or facial is only half the battle; a truly successful career is built on outstanding customer service and smart client management. This module covers the entire client experience journey, from the first greeting to a seamless checkout, teaching you the small details that create loyalty. You'll learn the fundamentals of front desk operations, including modern booking/scheduling software and Point-of-Sale (POS) systems. We'll then cover the most important business-building strategies: how to build your clientele through rebooking, referrals, and networking. You'll learn how to market yourself using social media, build a professional portfolio with effective "before and after" photos, and, crucially, how to handle client complaints with grace and professionalism.

The Salon Business: Entrepreneurship & Legal
This module is your bridge from artist to entrepreneur. Having mastered the technical skills, you now learn how to build a career and a business. We'll explore the primary career paths available to you: working for commission, renting a booth, or becoming a salon owner. You'll learn the crucial legal and financial foundations, including [Disclaimer: Not legal advice] the basics of business licenses, professional certifications, and liability insurance. We'll cover the strategy behind creating an effective service menu and pricing your skills for profitability. Finally, you'll learn the fundamentals of bookkeeping, inventory management, retail upselling, and how to create a simple business plan to guide your future growth, including considerations for hiring staff.
