Learning Objectives

By the end of this module, learners will be able to:

  • Understand the structure and usage of the future perfect passive voice.

  • Use the tense to describe actions that will be completed by a certain time in the future.

  • Differentiate between active and passive forms of the future perfect.

  • Apply the tense correctly in both written and spoken communication.

What is the Future Perfect Passive?

The Future Perfect Passive Voice is used to describe actions that will have been completed by a certain point in the future, with an emphasis on the action/result, not on who performs it.

Structure

Subject + will have been + past participle (V3)

Examples:

  • The report will have been submitted by Monday.

  • All the seats will have been booked by the time we arrive.

Active vs. Passive Voice (Future Perfect)

Active Voice Passive Voice
She will have finished the assignment. The assignment will have been finished.
They will have cleaned the room. The room will have been cleaned.

Use the passive when the doer is unknown, irrelevant, or less important than the action/result.

Time Expressions Commonly Used

  • By [a certain time/date]

  • Before [another action or time]

  • In [a certain amount of time]

Examples:

  • The documents will have been printed by 3 PM.

  • The room will have been cleaned before the guests arrive.

6. Negative and Question Forms

Negative Form:

Subject + will not (won’t) have been + past participle

Example:

  • The invitations won’t have been sent by tomorrow.

Question Form:

Will + subject + have been + past participle?

Example:

  • Will the project have been completed by next week?

Use in Real Communication

Business Writing:

  • “The final draft will have been reviewed by the time we meet on Friday.”

Project Planning:

  • “All necessary approvals will have been obtained before the launch.”

Casual Conversation:

  • “Do you think the movie will have been released by summer?”
